ROPING IN DEL RIO. Friday evening, the Denver Broncos announced the hiring of Jack Del Rio as defensive coordinator for the 2012 season. This is the seventh defensive coordinator that the Broncos have seen in the last seven seasons. With the recent loss of Dennis Allen to division rivals the Oakland Raiders earlier this week, the search was on for a new defensive coordinator.
This reunites John Fox and Jack Del Rio for a second time in their careers. Del Rio was Fox’s defensive coordinator in Carolina before he left for Jacksonville and later fired. Fox seems ecstatic the decision sharing this statement via his Twitter, “We are thrilled to be able to add such a well-respected defensive coach to our staff.” And you know it’s serious when you have to tweet about it.
